NVIDIA’s Tegra platform (APX 2500 is one of the models) launched as a possible competitor to, among other, Intel’s Atom processor. The hardware specifications lists an Arm11 processor with an in-house graphics core supporting the latest video formats. NVIDIA’s target is the ultraportable market, and especially MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices). The segment below the new netbook market. The platform has now been extended as NVIDIA has teamed up with browser developer Opera. The program suite of the Tegra platform will in the future include a specially designed version of Opera 9.5, optimized for the NVIDIA platform.



NVIDIA mentions a couple of bullet points where the tailored browser will be better than other alternatives together with NVIDIA’s special hardware.



• Support for full desktop Web content with hardware-accelerated rich media, image and in-page video playback


• GPU acceleration delivering a smooth, highly-interactive panning and zooming browsing experience with significantly-reduced battery consumption


• Hardware-accelerated 3D touch browsing experience with Opera integration into NVIDIA’s OpenKODE-based composition framework using the power of OpenGL ES 2.0.


The first units based the NVIDIA Tegra platform and Opera’s browser will arrive next year. The goal is to make browsing into a seamless experience with these devices.
