Both NVIDIA and Intel has plans for stealing more shares of the low cost market with new mainboard chipsets. Today the taiwanese manufacturers VIA and SiS have their prices as one of their strongest arguements, but nVidia will soon launch a new chipset series, codenamed C51, whch primary target would be the low cost-segment for AMD’s K8-arcitecture (Athlon 64). Also Intel has a new and cheaper chipset coming, namely 945GZ that lacks support for PCI Express and only offers one DDR2-memorychannel. How nVidia and Intel’s new chipsets affects VIA and SiS remains to seen but we can at least hope that this will result in cheaper mainboards overall.
