A while ago we reported on a new Eee PC from ASUS, X101 that comes with extremely cheap hardware, but the big news will be the operating system MeeGo, which enables ASUS to sell it much cheaper than previous netbooks, close to $200.

ASUS Eee PC X101 comes with a single-core Intel Atom N435 at 1.33 GHz and HyperThreading. You also get 1 GB DDR2 and 8GB SSD, but there is also a microSDHC reader that can be used to expand the capacity with 32 GB. We also see the standard features for netbooks, including 10.1″ screen with 1024 x 600 and 3-cell 2600 mAh battery.

X101 ships with MeeGo and will start selling in the USA for $199 in August and arrive in Europe in September. Those who are in desperate need of Windows can pay $250 and get Windows 7 Starter Edition. You will get to choose from the colors white, red and gold.

The computer looks very cut down, even when compared to other netbooks, but it doesn’t have to be a bad thing with MeeGo as the operating system and could be a cheap and interesting alternative for those looking for just a travel PC.
