The default question to any netbook manufacturer is if it is planning any 10.1″ models sporting High Definition displays. The answer is usually no and this was very much the case at CeBIT last week. In the days that followed the event we have learned that ASUS will presented the Eee PC 1005PR based on the Intel Atom N450 Pine Trail platform, which beside a 1.66GHz Atom CPU also will have 10.1″ display 1366x768px resolution.

This is a lot more pixels than the 1024×600 pixels we’re used to seeing, while Broadcom’s Crystal HD media processor enables playback of 720p video material.

ASUS Eee PC 1005PR ships with 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Bluetooth, WiFi, 0.3 Megapixel web camera and Intel’s integrated GMA 3150 GPU. The 6-cell battery will result in up to 9-11 hours with Windows 7 Starter Edition.

The resolution has been one of the greatest Achilles heals of 10.1″ netbooks and if more companies can create a trend of High Definition panels maybe we can see an increase in demand for these small and convenient travel pals. Not just for video but also as a tool. Unfortunately it looks like ASUS Eee PC 1005PR will only be available in selected regions, for example not around these parts, but hopefully there will be similar models.
