Nintendo recently revealed the final and real name of its coming video game console that until now has been code-named ”Revolution”. Wii is the new name and it is suppose to reflect Nintendo’s thought behind the new console while the code-name Revolution pointed to what it wanted to achieve. Unfortunately the name is everything that has been released, even if it is an interesting choice that is explained by a longer text found on the homepage, we know that there will be considerably more information available in just about two weeks, before E3, one year after the first presentation. If we are to believe what we’ve been told earlier everything will be revealed then.

”Introducing Wii.
As in ”we.”
While the code-name ”Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
Wii will put people in touch with their games … and eachother. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like ”we”, which emphasize this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive ”ii” spelling that symbolize both unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.
And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.
Because, it’s really not about you or me.
It’s about Wii.
And together, Wii will change everything.”
