Qualcomm is one of few processor manufacturers on the ultramobile market that has chosen to go down its own path. The Snapdragon architecture builds on an ARM license, but is very different from the base design of the Cortex family. Leaked documents reveal that the next generation Snapdragon architecture will be up to 23% more powerful than ARM’s Cortex-A15 architecture.

Qualcomm has released details on the coming Snapdragon architecture in the past, code-named Krait, but during an Android event in South Korea back in March the circuit maker released some more information and talked more detailed about the performance of the new circuits, not the least compared to ARM’s coming Cortex-A15 architecture. An architecture that ARM says will seriously scare up some noise in the x86 segment.

Qualcomm claims in the product presentation that the next generation Snapdragon family will result in up to 23% better performance than ARM’s own Cortex-A15 architecture, while it will lower energy consumption with up to 47% if put on the same level of performance as a Cortex-A15 based system processor.

Qualcomm continues to talk about the coming Adreno 2xx/3xx GPUs that it claims will result in video game console performance. The first circuits will launch with 1, 2 or 4 CPU cores and we can expect the first products with the new chipsets in the middle of next year.
