3dfx disappear in 2000 when NVIDIA acquired the popular graphics circuit manufacturer. Through its Voodoo series 3dfx had moved the 3D graphics into a new era and managed to gain quite a following through the years. After the acquisition 3dfx was more or less phased out right away, including the support for its graphics cards. To make sure users who had spent their money on Voodoo cards would still be able to use them with the new operating systems, like Windows XP, the enthusiast community decided to make its own drivers for the cards. Believe it or not, but it has managed to do very well and the updates are still coming.
Just a few days ago a new SFFT driver for 3dfx’s Voodoo3, Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 series was released. The new driver is in its Alpha stage, but will work with both the 32-bit and 64-bit version of Windows XP. We’re not sure if there are any plans for a Windows Vista driver, but considering the current graphics card manufacturers’ problems this seems a bit farfetched, but then again never say never.
