When we imagine all-in-one computers like the Apple iMac, Dell XPS One and such, where manufacturers have managed to install all these components inside a small case on the back of the monitor, performance and enthusiasts are not considered a target buyer. When you encase a computer in a case not bigger than a regular monitor there are some obvious limitations and one of them is of course the heat development. That makes NEC two new series of PCs, ValueStar N and ValueStar W extra interesting. The first comes with either a 19″ or 21.5″ (Full HD) display and pretty decent specifications.

A Core 2 Duo 7400 processor is paired with 4GB RAM and an integrated GeForce 9400 graphics circuit, Blu-ray player and much more.

ValueStar W has to be considered the high-end model and expands the processing power with two additional cores in the form of a Core 2 Quad Q8200S CPU with otherwise similar specifications. The screen measures 22″ and a somewhat disappointing 1680×1050 pixel resolution. Unlike the N series, the W series has a bigger base that is hardly an advantage aesthetically speaking, but it has enabled NEC to install water cooling, which not only cools the processor but also the harddrive.

Not exactly what you would expect from a system like this, and NEC gets a big shiny gold star for doing this from us here at NH.
