MSI X48 Platinum and X48C Platinum are the names of the two newest motherboards from MSI. The boards are based on the new high-end Intel X48 chipset and sport the latest innovations in PC technology. One of the ”new” features of X48 is the support for DDR3-1600 with XMP (eXtreme Memory Profile) and 1600 MHz FSB. MSI X48C Platinum is a dual-memory board with both DDR2 and DDR3 slots, while the X48 Platinum is all DDR3. The latter also sports four PCIe x16 slots (two x16 and two x4) and brings CrossFireX support, while X48C Platinum has to settle for only two PCIe x16 slots.
Both boards are of course 45nm ready, including Yorkfield. The boards comes with solid state capacitors and a dual-channel PWM design, meaning two pairs of shielded choke and mosfet base on the basic 4-phase PWM. MSI has also used its patented Circu-pipe cooling, for cooling the mosfets, chipset and PCIe extender chip.
