AMD barely mentioned the coming performance platform Bulldozer at CES, but with plans to revive the classic enthusiast series FX we more eager than ever before the new platform. Motherboard maker MSI had an AMD 990FX motherboard to show, called Big Bang Conqueror, with support for Bulldozer.

MSI wasn’t very open about the details surrounding the board, but this hardly came as a surprise since no other company had anything Bulldozer-related to show for the media.

MSI Big Bang Conqueror comes with an AM3b socket, which hints the second generation Socket AM3 platform. As you may know AMD’s Bulldozer architecture will require a new platform to access all of the new functions and it will be named Socket AM3+.

What we can see here is a big collection of power circuits, and high quality capacitors and coils with its Military Class II technology. The board comes with four PCI Express x16 slots whereof two has full x16 bandwidth. Four DDR3 memory slots, SATA 6.0 Gbps, USB 3.0 and OC Genie levers on-board are just some of the remaining features. We also find an Error LED panel below the southbridge cooler and a relatively low and slim heatsink, which we hope means the new chipsets are relatively cooler and energy efficient.

AMD Bulldozer will launch in early Q2 2011 and the new processors will get 2 to 8 processor cores and be made with fresh 32 nanometer technology. The new Bulldozer processors are expected to go up against Intel’s Core i7 family and with a tuned architecture, and clock frequencies up around 3.5 GHz the new platform should be a big performance leap for AMD.
