Early this year we caught sight of AMD’s road map where some new processors were revealed. So far it it has been very close to what has actually happened and now we find out more about the two coming processors called AMD FX-8350 and AMD A6-5400K.
The new flagship AMD FX-8350 ships with a hefty frequency. AMD’s coming beast is clocked at 4,0 GHz and is pushed to 4.2 Ghz when Turbo mode kicks in. FX-8350 has eight cores and 16 MB cache, whereof 8 MB is L2 and 8 MB is L3. Just as the predecessor FX-8150, FX-8350 doesn’t have an integrated graphics processor and comes unlocked to ease overclocking. The processor supports DDR3-1866 and will slide into AM3+ motherboards.
AMD says we can expect a big boost in multi-threaded applications thanks to improvements in the Piledriver architecture. AMD has been working on the Achilles heal of Bulldozer and managed to manufacture the architecture with these improvements without increasing energyc consumption. AMD will start shipping samples next month, but it will take until late October before it will reach the retail channel.
The second processor is AMD A6-5400K that builds on the Trinity architecture. Trinity is also based on Piledriver and targets the mid-range. News over Llano include better CPU and GPU performance and better energy efficiency.
A6-5400K has only two cores and these operate at 3.6 GHz and clocks up to 3.8 GHz when Turbo is activated. The processor supports 1866 MHz DDR3 memory just like FX-8350, and has an unlocked multiplier. A6-5400K will be compatible with coming FM2 motherboards. The integrated graphics circuit is a Radeon HD 7540D that operates at 760 MHz and sports 192 Radeon cores, and 65W TDP.
The growing APUmarket will get additional supplements in the form of AMD A6-5400K and A4-5300, which will become official in Q3. For the performance market AMD is planning FX-4320, FX-6300, FX-8320 and FX-8350, which will all see the light of day in Q3.
