Micron is one of the world’s leading memory chip manufacturers and to live up to the reputation it has now designed the world’s smallest DDR2 memory chip. The chip sports a capacity of 1 Gb and covers a surface of a mere 56 mm². Beside the size, Micron claims that the chip will bring reduced power consumption thanks to the efficient 68 nm manufacturing process. Micron is aiming for the really power efficient market and the chip is expected to go into mass production next year, with DDR3 versions in the latter half of 2008. The DDR3 chip will sport speeds up to 1600 MB/s and will be targeted for laptops, among others.
