Maxell and InPhase is planning 1.6TB optical discs

Maxell and InPhase Tecknologies has announced the future of optical media with holographic storage technology. The technology has capacity for optical discs with a storage of up to enormous 1.6TB and a data transfer rate at 120MBPs. The storage capacity would with such a disc be 63 times more than with today’s DVD format which really shows how efficient the holograpcic storage technology is. The first generation of holographic media is expected to arrive in September 2006 and then it is quite small discs at ”only” 300GB.
