LucidLogix has made a name developing technology to make different graphics circuits work together and assist each other to improve 3D performance in games. The next technology from the company lets graphics cards from AMD and NVIDIA work more efficiently with Intel’s new Sandy Bridge processors and the integrated GPU.

LucidLogix Virtu technology will act as a middle hand for the Sandy Bridge GPU and discrete graphics card from AMD and NVIDIA. Like the Optimus technology from the latter, Virtu will automatically shift the load between the different GPUs to maximize performance when needed, or to reduce power consumption.

“What we have really accomplished here is a seamless visual experience where it is not necessary to choose between the amazingly rich media features of Intel Sandy Bridge platform, like HD playback and powerful video transcoding, and the high-end 3D graphics functionality and performance of a discrete GPU,” sa Offir Remez, LucidLogix ordförande och grundare. “Now it is possible to experience a no-guilt, nocompromise PC entertainment experience, and save on energy at the same time.”

Lucid Virtu will work with graphics cards from AMD and NVIDIA and the only requirement for the technology to work is that the screen is connected to any of the video outputs for the Sandy Bridge GPU.

The first release candidate of Lucid Virtu has shipped to motherboard manufacturers and the software will go live in the next quarter and will appear in systems the same time. The technology is software based and doesn’t have any hardware requirements, beside using a motherboard with support for Sandy Bridge’s integrated GPU.
