LTPS TFT LCD-panels is a new technology developed by TMDisplay (Toshiba Matsushita Display Technology) and the new panels use a new LED-background lighting technology for use with notebook systems. The first 11.1″ panels are based on low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) and have already started being massproduced and the most interesting with these panels is the thickness. The LTPS-technology is namely that it makes it possible to create LCD-panels which are only 2.75mm thick, about half as thick a LCD-panel with CCFL-background lighting (cold cathode fluorescent lamp).

”This new LCD can fully display DVD movies and TV program and motion picture content with high image quality, the company stated. TMDisplay is planning to complete a lineup of extremely thin, lightweight, and low power displays especially designed to support the performance requirements of mobile PC applications.”

The 11.1″ widescreen panel has a resolution at 1366×768 px and will be displayed at FDP International 2005 on October 19-21 in Yokohama, Japan.
