Lenovo ThinkPad W700ds is a big and heavy notebook not quite like other notebooks. This mobile workstation is a bit thicker than most competitors, for one obvious reason. Lenovo hasn’t just fitted it with a 17″ LCD, it has also attached an additional display measuring 10.6″. We earlier reported about how Fujitsu had installed an extra 4″ LCD for some touch navigation, but this is something different.

ThinkPad W700ds enables a multi-display experience from the box and the secondary display is supposed to work as additional workspace. Lenovo has also installed an electronic drawing board below the keyboard so you won’t need the displays for anything like that.

”Why two screens? Most people are using two monitors at their desktop. So we wanted to give them all the things they are used to on their desk,” said Wes Williams, worldwide product marketing manager for ThinkPads.

Under the hood you will find Intel’s Core 2 processor and NVIDIA’s mobile Quadro graphics circuit. Those with generous wallets can install up to 8GB DDR3 RAM and 960GB storage space, not too bad for a ”notebook”.

The drawback is that the computer becomes a bit clumsy. ThinkPad W700ds is more than 5cm thick and weighs around 5 kilo. The other problem is that the price starts at $3,600 when it appears in January.
