Intel will announce its first Quad-core for the server market on November 16, also konwn as Clovertown. This information comes from Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers and DigiTimes has been able to get a hold of a lot of detailed information about Clovertown and what models Intel will launch. The first Clowertown models will be for two-way servers – two processors with each four physical cores. The name of the new processor series will be Xeon 5300 and as expected Intel has more or less squeezed two Woodcrest cores into the same processor to create its first quad-core processors.

We should be able to expect at least four models in the form of Xeon X5355 (2.66GHz/1333MHz FSB/8MB L2 cache), E5345 (2.33GHz/1333MHz FSB/8MB L2 cache), E5320 (1.86GHz/1066MHz FSB/8MB L2 cache) and E5310 (1.60GHz/1066MHz FSB/8MB L2 cache). As you can see the frequencies have been kept tight and stop at 2.66GHz to begin with, certainly to keep the heat at bay. Xeon X5355 will namely have a TDP value at 130W already at 2.66GHz. The prices will be between $455 and $1172 – in quantities of 1000 units.
