Intel vs. VIA: kampen fortsätter

Intel har fortfarande inte gjort ett enda officiellt försök att stoppa VIA’s P4X266, men försöker med en slags sublim skärmselpropagnade få tillverkare att tveka inför valet av VIA’s krets. VIA’s marknadschef sa i ett pressmeddelande i dagarna att:

• ”…there is no claim of infringement against the VIA Apollo P4X266…”
• ”Intel should deal with facts openly and communicate through official press releases rather than threatening customers and sowing seeds of doubt in the marketplace.”
• ”…(low) cost and (high) speed are two of the biggest factors that will influence the success of upcoming systems based on the new Pentium 4. VIA has created a solution that addresses these points head on and in a way that Intel has not been able to. Intel should recognize the fact that the P4X266 will provide Intel’s Pentium 4 processor with a significant boost in the marketplace,” commented Richard Brown, Director of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc.

Detta samtidigt som Intel verkar skjuta fram planerna på att släppa sin konkurrent, i845, även det med stöd för DDR RAM. En upplösning borde inte vara allt för långt borta. Läs mer på X-bit Labs och The Register.
