Intel has, as expected, released its new mid-range and performance platform Socket LGA1156. Leading the new platform we have two series of processors, Core i5-7xx and Core i7-8xx. We have informed you, on several occasions actually, that there would be a trio of processors in the form of Core i5-750, Core i7-860 and Core i7-870. These quad-core processors all share many features with the Nehalem processors of the LGA1366 platform, but still have several distinguishing features.

First of all, one memory channel has been dropped and been replaced with a PCI-Express controller and DMI data bus. We are working on a review of our own, but until then you will have to settle for the selection of reviews gathered below.

Intel has a job well done to look back upon as the new processors does well, and not the least have they managed to launch both processors and loads of motherboards with availability across the board.

We will be back within the near future with more hands-on information on Intel’s Lynnfield platform.
