Intel finally launched its new chipset series last night, the series based on the Bearlake circuitry. The chipset of the series is called Intel P35 and it has been paired with the southbridge ICH9. Intel P35 supports the new 1333MHz processor bus, but the biggest piece of news is without a doubt the new, optimized memory controller which also supports DDR3-1333. Even if Intel is also launching its G33 chipset, it’s for the OEMs first of all, but it will most likely not be as common on the retail market as the new 90nm Intel P35 chipset.
Except the improved performance, support for 1333MHz FSB and an optimized memory controller, the ICH9 southbridge also supports more SATA ports, external SATA connector and features like Desktop Turbo Memory, where the motherboard manufacturers can integrate flash memory directly on to the motherboard for better harddrive performance.
