Intel is said to be about to enter the high performance segment of the graphics circuit market by launching a graphics processor with technology from Imagination’s Power VR architecture. The best known graphics circuits based on the Power VR architecture are Kyro and Kyro II where we about five years ago tested the latest circuits in the form of Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 (in Swedish). Now it seems that Power VR will return as Intel has licensed its programmable shader architecture SGX.

Exactly what circuits Intel will use is uncertain, but they are suppose to be based on the Power VR architecture and there are possibilities that it will actually launch external graphics cards and not just go with integrated solutions as it does today. According to The Inquirer we should be able to expect the first Intel Power VR circuits during the fall of 2007.
