Intel’s Caneland server platform is still a bit into the future, but as a
sample of its great progress Intel has demonstrated the next generation server
platform together with the next generation server processor, Tigerton.
TechReport visited Intel in Oregon and received a demonstration of a, the least
to say, impressive server system. A Caneland-based server with
four Tigerton processors with four processor cores each; a total of 16
physical cores. The cores use the same base architecture as Intel’s other Core
processors and will arrive with Tigerton next year.
They got a preview of what a sixteen core processor system can do in multithreaded applications and also took the opportunity to take some pictures of the impressive system.
