Intel’s first hexa-core processor for the desktop market have been developed under the code-name Gulftown, but will be known as Core i7 980X in stores sometime in the March-April time frame. Even if the processor is still under NDA for the media, many samples have found their ways into the hands of the people who are not covered by it.
The processor have crushed several world records in the hands of overclocker Andre Yang, and not the least the Futuremark ORB have seen some irregular activity. Andre Yang have gone against Futuremark’s rules and posted results with Intel’s unreleased processor and took the record in all four 3DMark Vantage presets.
Futuremark removed Andre Yang’s scores since he used unreleased hardware, but they keep showing up and even if it is exciting to see the performance of Intel’s new monster processor it is even more obvious that Intel can’t keep its test processor under control.

Andre Yang hasn’t revealed any specific details on the test system but with a Core i7 980X CPU clocked at 5.9GHz, together with four Radeon HD 5870 graphics cards the performance is just breathtaking. He registered a 3DMark Vantage High result at H40369 points, about 4000 points higher than the runner-up.
The results will most likely be removed by Futuremark soon. In the meantime we continue to long for the processor.
