En ny uppsättning mikrokod kom med ett uppdaterat användaravtal som väckte missnöje och höjde en hel del ögonbryn. Efter mycket negativ kritik angående användaravtalet har Intel nu ändrat på den kritiserade paragrafen.
Under gårdagen fick processorjätten Intel motta en hel del negativ kritik angående ett användaravtal. Användaravtalet i fråga är det som medföljde en mikrokod-uppdatering som ska åtgärda ett säkerhetshål vid namn ”L1 Terminal Fault” som drabbat tillverkarens processorer.
Intel har redan publicerat siffror för hur pass den nya uppdateringen påverkar prestandan för Windows-användare. Däremot förbjöd användaravtalet för Linux-användare att prestandatester som mätte uppdateringens inverkan på systemen skulle offentliggöras.
Efter den kritik Intel fick motta har nu användaravtalet uppdaterats. Originalavtalet var utformat som följande:
You will not, and will not allow any third party to (i) use, copy, distribute, sell or offer to sell the Software or associated documentation; (ii) modify, adapt, enhance, disassemble, decompile, reverse engineer, change or create derivative works from the Software except and only to the extent as specifically required by mandatory applicable laws or any applicable third party license terms accompanying the Software; (iii) use or make the Software available for the use or benefit of third parties; or (iv) use the Software on Your products other than those that include the Intel hardware product(s), platform(s), or software identified in the Software; or (v) publish or provide any Software benchmark or comparison test results.
Efter kritiken och medier som hört av sig till Intel angående den kritiserade paragrafen har Intel nu officiellt gett ett svar till Tom’s Hardware:
We are updating the license now to address this and will have a new version available soon. As an active member of the open source community, we continue to welcome all feedback.
Det tog sedan inte lång tid innan ett nytt användaravtal var på plats. Denna gång helt utan några som helst krav på prestandatester eller dylikt.

Intel verkar således ha tagit åt sig av den enorma kritik de fick motta efter att användaravtalet som först kritiserades i ett blogginlägg av Bruce Perens. Huruvida processortillverkaren lyckas hålla sig i skinnet när det kommer till framtida användaravtal återstår att se.
Vilka tror dom att dom är? Längre långfinger till konsumenterna kan man knappt ge. Dessutom när det inte verkar vara juridiskt hållbart i något land. Detta är också rena Streisand effect när dom försöker dölja något https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect
