It has now been confirmed that Hewlett-Packard, HP, ”does a Dell” and purchase a smaller system builder which has specialized in computers for enthusiasts and gamers. Dell acquired Alienware earlier this year and now HP has done the same with VoodooPC. The deal is a bit different from that between Dell and Alienware as this one was kept secret, more or less, until the deal was finished. In his well known blog VoodooPC’s founder Rahul Sood has published a chronicle where he tells of the acquisition and the fact that HP was just one ut of many speculants. The reason VoodooPV chose HP was that it really appreciated the company’s views and how HP works with developing its business.
”Even though you may not know it there is one thing about HP that makes them stand out among the rest: serious innovation. Backed by a $3.5+ billion dollar R&D budget, HP labs was generating an average of eleven unique patents a day. We’re not talking about “supply chain innovations” either; they are sitting on a treasure trove of product innovations with massive potential.”
When Sood lists the more interesting parts of the deal he has put the focus on HP’s big research and development division. A division which VoodooPC will use to continue develop new products. This really builds up to a nice fight between Dell and HP as both now has an enthusiast and gamer company of their own.
