Small preview imageGeForce 9800GX2 is the flagship of the GeForce series from NVIDIA. Unlike all other cards of the series, 9800GX2 has two graphics circuits working together through an internal SLI bridge. If you want and can afford it, you can use two of them to create a Quad SLI configuration on an SLI motherboard. This is the most powerful graphics setup you can get today, but just like the first Quad SLI-capable card GeForce 7950GX2, GeForce 9800GX2 is going to be a very short-lived card.

One can’t help wondering if the sole purpose of the card was to show that NVIDIA can also do dual-GPU with the current architecture after AMD released its dual-GPU card Radeon HD 3870X2. 3870X2 is a lot cheaper though and it seems that it will also have a much longer lifespan than 9800GX2. Expreview reports that the card will reach EOL (End-Of-Life) in June, while the 3870X2 will go on until it is replaced by its successor of the R700 series. Whether 9800GX2 will be replaced by another GX2 card or another kind of dual-GPU card we’re not sure.
