X-bit labs set out to test NVIDIA’s current GeForce 8 lineup in a regular fashion, ranging from the GeForce 8500GT up to the 8800 Ultra, but found out something very interesting in the process. When the first reviews of the GeForce 8 series appeared we could see a significant advantage with the larger memory of the GeForce 8800GTS 640MB over the 320MB version. But now that the cards have been tested again it seems that the difference is a lot smaller than it seemed back then, actually none.

Since the cards are the same as back then we assume that something happened to the drivers and according to the review there is no reason to chose the 640MB version over the 320MB. Not even at really high resolutions. Perhaps because 320MB is enough and that 640 is just excessive?
