Small preview imagenVidia surprised many with its launch of its ”next generation” graphic circuit G70 a couple of weeks ago and for the first time in a very, very long time the card was actually available in stores at the launch. Even if the performance is quite a lot better than the earlier generation, NV40 GF6800, there are a lot of similarities between the two. Something that makes the difference in performance not so much in some cases. nVidia has tried to convince us that G70 is their next generation of circuits, but many were doubtful and we think they may be on to something. According to The Inquirer people from nVidia has inofficially revealed that G70 isn’t the best they got.

G70 is an optimized and refined version of the NV40-arcitecture that was launched when they saw that ATI wouldn’t get R520 out in time. If ATi had been ready with R520 nVidia would’ve been ready with a paperlaunch of its real next generation circuit. Whether this information is correct is hard to tell, but it doesn’t sound unreasonable. At the same time nVidia has a golden oppurtunity to gain some extra marketshares as the next generation closes in.
