AMD Radeon HD 6990 is with its dual Cayman-XT GPUs the most powerful graphics card on the market today. The only real drawback is the high power consumption, high temperatures and lively cooler. EK soon has a solution to all of these, beside the cost issue.
Water block maker EK has made a name for high quality solutions and now that it has presented pictures of one of the first water blocks for AMD’s brutal Radeon HD 6990 graphics card nothing is left to chance. EK has relied on a full cover design that covers GPUs, bridge chip, memory chip and voltage regulators.
A black acrylic top with the EK logo sits on the copper base while an aluminum panel with carved out logo covers memory chips and voltage regulators on the back of the card. EK reveals no details on the weight, performance or price. But since EK today charges 110€ for its Radeon HD 5970 block we can probably expect an even higher price. The same block weighs around 1kg, which could be a good reference for the Radeon HD 6990 block.
Besides that EK makes an already expensive graphics card even more expensive a water block may be the best investment one can do as a Radeon HD 6990 owner. In about 2 weeks EK will start shipping.
