Canonical presented its latest versions of Ubuntu earlier last week. Ubuntu 10.10 for desktops and Ubuntu Light for netbooks and ultrathin computers. Ubuntu Light is a simplified version of Ubuntu that loads in just 7 seconds even on less powerful systems.

Ubuntu Light is optimized and developed for mobile units and smaller computers that through its Unity interface will have a clear layout of the operating system and its applications. The operating shares the same filesystem as Windows 7 for easy switching in between, which works well since Ubuntu Light is intended as a complement for Microsoft’s operating system.

Canonical has revealed that the first Ubuntu Light netbooks will be available in just a month, where sources in Taiwan claims that among others Dell will be one company offering it. Not surprising since Dell already has hte most Ubuntu solutions today. Dell has not commented on the rumors.
