A while back Dell announce its Studio One PC. This all-in-one computer targeted those who wanted a fast PC but also a clean desk or simply doesn’t have much space. The computer is namely built into the monitor. This is in no way a new approach to designing computers, but earlier this concept has been pretty exclusive to Apple and its iMac series, but the PC equivalents are now finally starting to multiply.
Dell Studio One 19 uses a 19″ widescreen display in aluminum and glass can be had in the colors; Solid Pure White, Tuscan Red, Navy Blue, Powder Pink and Charcoal. You can even define the hardware to some extent:
In terms of processor you can choose between Intel Celeron, Dual Core Celeron, Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad. When it comes to graphics, you can, pretty understandably, only choose between integrated solutions; either nVidida GeForce 9200 or 9400. Up to 4 GB RAM will be available and up to 750 GB harddrive space. You also get a DVD player and 7-in-1 card reader, Blu-ray optional.
The most interesting option is perhaps that you can also add touchscreen and in that way completely eliminate the need for keyboard and mouse. Yours truly wouldn’t mind having a 19″ touchscreen with integrated computer hanging on the wall or perhaps even for regular computer use. The question is what this feature will do to the price.
Studio One will launch in Japan on March 23 and will arrive in the West later this year, says Dell. The price of the entry model, and we do mean entry, will be $699. Which almost half of the price of the cheapest iMac, but then again you get a lot better hardware with the iMac; 20″ screen, 2,66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB RAM.
