Those of you who are pondering about whether to invest in new memories should head over to overclock3d.net where they’ve tested two motherboard, where of one is using the new DDR3 standard. They’ve tried to use fastest memories available with both standards to check how the older generation stands up to the newcomer. The review is rather thorough, but they do not compare the memories at the same frequency. The DDR3 modules ran at much higher frequencies while DDR2 had access to better timings, just like in real life. The conclusion is quite clear. Besides the rather high prices there is really no reason to chose to a DDR2 platform.
