Windows Vista may very well be the last of its kind. It’s not the first time we’ve heard someone say that. The reasons for this have been varying, but they usually circle the fact that Vista is incredibly complex and that the work of making it hardware compatible and not the least upgradeable/fixable is enormously extensive. Gartner now suggests that future Windows will instead use Virtualization and have a more distinct modular design.
Even if Vista has been promised to be more modular than previous versions of Windows, it’s still far from what e.g. BeOS had to offer. Virtualization and modules would reduce the workload for both Microsoft and users while the compatibility would be a lot easier to solve, says analysts at Gartner.
