Barebone specialist Shuttle showed its latest SFF barebones at CeBIT and the media darling was the new J3 series with the classic cube shape, but now supporting the mini-ITX format. Earlier on Shuttle has relied on the flexATX standard which limits the selection and upgrade options quite a bit. in the future Shuttle’s SFF barebones will be compatible with the popular mini-ITX format, which we can only consider a big leap in the right direction.

There won’t be any cases without motherboards or power supplies (the very definition of a barebone), since the company has no intention of becoming a regular case builder. Not surprising, but still a bit disappointing.

Shuttle XPC SX58J3

Shuttle XPC SX58J3 is the flagship of the program that not only supports Core i7 socket LGA 1366 processors but also Intel’s hexa-core Gulftown CPU. Powerful processors aside there is room for dual PCIe x16 graphics cards in SLI or CrossFire, as long as the cards aren’t too thick.

Other interesting specifications is a 500W 80 Plus power supply, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, 8 channel audio circuit and up to 16GB DDR3-1066 RAM (official support/limitation of the socket LGA 1366 platform).
