Storage company Buffalo has presented the SHD-NHPU2 SSD series and with 32GB, 64GB or 128GB capacity these are intended for older machines. Buffalo has chosen to use the nearly extinct PATA interface. With 64MB memory cache and what looks like an Indilinx controller the drive offers transfer rates at 101MB/s, limited by the interface.

Buffalo will start selling the SSDs in Japan this month. It’s an interesting thought, but buying 32GB SSD storage for nearly $200 for an old computer doesn’t feel quite sane even if there are some companies that are perhaps stuck with the PATA interface.
