Buffalo BR3D-12U3 is one of the first external optical drives with the latest SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface. With Blu-ray write speeds up to 12x Buffalo’s unit requires a data transfer rate of 54MB/s to achieve maximal potential, which is beyond the bandwidth of USB 2.0. Using SuperSpeed USB 3.0 the Blu-ray burner can, even though it’s external, reach maximal write speed and there is room for more.
Buffalo BR3D-12U3 burns DVD-R/+R media at 16x speed while CD-R media is written at 40x speed. The burner is bundled with a number of useful applications, including CyberLink PowerDVD 9, PowerProducer 5, PowerDirector 8 HE, Media Show 5 and other goodies.
The drive will cost $400 and will launch in June.
