AMD’s processors are a great choice for those who play a lot of games, but to most its the video card that is the number one priority. This is a given, but the question is how much of a difference the choice of processor makes. At TweakTown they’ve tested AMD’s most expensive processor, Athlon 64 FX-60, against its cheapest dual-core desktop processor, Athlon 64 X2 3800+, to see how much of a difference there is with a really powerful graphics system. With two GeForce 7800 GTX card in a SLI setup the processors gets to work up a real nice sweat and at several occasions the FX-60 offers considerably better performance, up to 25%. But is it really worth the extra money, ~$700?
