Microsoft have at so many occasions that we have lost count expressed its dislike with Apple’s iPod and especially its dominance over the other portable digital media players. We have earlier reported about that it will launch a new media service that will compete directly with iTunes, which is one of the main reasons that people pick iPod, and now it will also, apparently, launch a player of its own. It says however that it can not be just its version of iPod but that it has to bring something more and since iPod already sports sound, image and video there isn’t much multimedia left to cover. Therefore Microsoft is leaning towards making its player a gaming player.

In my humble opinion that would result in a player that is competing with Sony PSP and Nintendo DS and not iPod which is Microsoft main interest here. Whether it will be a portable Xbox or an iPod copy remains to see, but it seems that Microsoft is ready to spend a lot of money, most likely more than most of us can imagine, on taking down iPod.
