Now that Apple has released the latest big update for Mac OS X it is with a lot of bug fixes and some controversy. The perhaps biggest news among the more eye-catching features is that the operating system no longer supports Intel’s popular budget processor Atom. Apple has simply locked out Atom processors from Mac OS X 10.6.2 and while there is no official reason for it, we have a hunch.
Apple doesn’t really appreciate users running so called ”Hackintosh” systems where they install Mac OS X on a regular PC. But perhaps most of all because the company has taken a stand against netbooks and their meager performance, with Intel’s Atom processor leading them.
It simply looks like Apple doesn’t want Atom users to become annoyed by the performance of Mac OS X that was never intended to run on this hardware. But there only thing we know for certain is that Mac OS X 10.6.2 should not be installed on netbooks or other systems with Intel’s Atom processor.
