Apple has sued plenty of companies and threatened even more with legal actions. Not all of them have been bad though, Apple is constantly being copied and the company Psystar has a very special thorn in the side of the Apple. Apple actually won in court against Psystar, accusing them of violating copyright by selling PCs with Mac OS X installed from factory.

Despite the conviction Apple says Psystar has continued selling PCs with Mac OS X and it now wants a federal judge to put an end to Psystar’s Mac clones, and it wants 2.1 billion dollar in damages.

Even if Psystar can’t have hurt Apple sales anywhere near that sum of money, Apple wants to make a stand try to stop plagiarizing and piracy of its products.

”Psystar pirates Apple’s software, circumvents Apple’s technological protection measures, and illegally benefits from the goodwill and reputation Apple has built. Psystar’s conduct, if permitted to continue, will both tarnish Apple’s reputation for excellence and lead to the proliferation of copycats who also will free ride on Apple’s investments, infringe Apple’s intellectual property rights, and cause further irreparable injury.”

Psystar counter-sued Apple and claimed it was building a monopoly by tying Mac OS X to its own hardware, a case that was dropped back in November last year.

Apple hopes to get rid of Psystar for good, even if the latter is doing what they can to fight Apple.
