Apple has reached an impressive milestone and it has now announced that it has sold over over 100 million iPods since the launch five and a half years ago. It has launched 10 different iPod models since November 2001, when the first player arrived, and has been the best selling portable music player around ever since.

”At this historic milestone, we want to thank music lovers everywhere for making iPod such an incredible success,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPod has helped millions of people around the world rekindle their passion for music, and we’re thrilled to be a part of that.”

There’s no doubt that iPod has been a great success for Apple and 100 million sold players is a quite impressive achievement in just little more than 5 years. Apple has more and tougher competition than ever and we’re excited to see what will happen to iPod and the portable media player market the coming years; will iPod remain the dominating player?
