Intel will be first to launch a hexa-core processor for retail with its Core i7 980X. AMD isn’t far behind though and its Thuban CPU that is said to launch as Phenom II X6 will most likely make an appearance at CeBIT. The demonstrations at CeBIT will be under media embargo until the launch date, which has been suggested to be April 26th.

Would this turn out to be correct AMD has moved the launched forward and will launch it earlier than we previously expected. As you perhaps know Phenom II X6 is expected to debut at 2.8GHz and sport a new turbo technology for increasing the clock frequency with single cores when the other are idle.

AMD hasn’t commented on the story, but a launch on April 26th fits perfectly with the launch of AMD’s coming 8 series chpisets.
