Athlon is probably one of the brands strongest related to AMD and even though there has been rumors of the branding coming to an end, it seems it will get another year at least. The new processors will be based on Trinity silicon, but without the integrated graphics.
Besides a new wave of APUs in the Trinity family and a new socket AMD is having a hard time letting go of the Athlon brand, even though Llano has been a success. AMD is according to CPU World planning no less than three Athlon II processors that share the same Piledriver architecture as the APUs in the A series. The integrated graphics processor will be completely deactivated though. The processors should end up in the lower price ranges.

Top model Athlon II X4 750K gets four cores clocked at 3.4 GHz, 4 MB L2 cache and 100W TDP. The suffix ”K” at the end of the model name reveals it will get an unlocked multiplier for overclocking. Then we have models 740 and 730 with the same number of cores and cache, but clocked at 3.2 and 2.8 GHz respectively and rated 65W TDP.
It is also likely the processors will support Turbo Core for dynamic and automatic overclocking, but we don’t know that for sure. It is also unsure whether these will be OEM exclusive or if they will also reach the retail channel.
