AMD’s unlocked versions of Llano, A8-3870K and A6-3670K have turned out to be less overclocking friendly than we had hoped for under air cooling. With extreme cooling, like liquid nitrogen, Christian Ney managed to claim two new records.

When Llano arrived it was hardly considered an attractive alternative to overclockers, but had to settle for being an affordable architecture with integrated graphics for the lower segments. AMD’s unlocked version turned out to be rather interesting and good overclockers when put under extreme cooling.

With the voltage turned up to 2.0 V, the references clock to 129.1 MHz and 47x multiplier he claimed the new world record with Llano at 6067 MHz. To help him he had a Gigabyte GA-A75-UD4H motherboard and Geil Eva Corsa memory.

Also the memory frequency was pushed up high, all the way to 3 505 MHz with 13-13-13-36 timings, which is more than 500 MHz over the previous record with Llano. It is also the second highest frequency overall, and is only beaten by Matose, Monstru and Micutzu that did 3600 MHz with AMD’s Bulldozer architecture. Even if the unlocked Llano processors did not impress much for everyday use, overclockers can certainly have fun with them.
