AMD will according to sources support the DDR500-standard before venturing into a new memory technology for their Athlon 64-platform. Earlier there have been rumours that AMD would introduce their Socket M2 and processors with support for DDR2. Whether this will actually happen or if they instead prolong the use of the DDR-technology remains to see. Even if the information on the DDR500-support is in no way official it’s not really surprising since Athlon 64 works best at the low timings which the DDR-technology can deliver, even if it gets harder at higher frequencies.
