Geode is AMD’s answer to the low power processors that VIA and Transmeta have. Geode is everything but a top performance desktop processor but here everything revolves around power consumption. AMD launched its new model in their Geode series last week and the processor goes by the name Geode LX 800@0.9W. The name pretty much says it all. You can compare that to the +100W today’s highend-processors consume. The processor works at 500MHz and the performance hardly overwhelming. But then Geode LX 800@0.9W isn’t a desktop processor but targeted towards mobile units, but supports Windows XP through its x86-arcitecture. The price will be around 45 dollar a piece when ordering 10 000 units.
