AMD FX processor pictured, launches June 7th?

AMD FX will be the retail name of AMD’s new processor family. Based on its fresh Bulldozer architecture the launch was slated for Q2, which is apparently set to June 7th now. According to a product presentation from Gigabyte, AMD FX series will be presented at Computex and the first CPU has now been pixelized.

AMD FX series with the new Bulldozer architecture will offer up to eight CPU cores and slide into the Socket AM3+ platform. Both ASUS and MSI already support the new processors with multiple AM3 motherboards, through simple BIOS updates. Competitor Gigabyte instead launches new motherboards that is identified by their black sockets.

More interesting is the information that Gigabyte offers in its product presentation of the new Socket AM3+ motherboards. It has noted that AMD will launch the FX series on June 7th at Computex, which would fit well with previous rumors. This is somewhat confusing though since Computex 2011 closes on June 4th and E3 in Los Angeles opens on June 7th.

The new AMD FX series will initially consist of four models sporting four, six or eight CPU cores to go up against Sandy Bridge. Earlier sources hve spoken of FX-8100, FX-6100 and FX-4100, but the picture that is said to come from Gigabyte’s roadmap ends in 200, which is correct or if the roadmap is genuine is uncertain, but a launch at Computex sonds like a fitting time for AMD.

The new FX processors is made with 32nm SOI technology and will support second generation Turbo Core technology and DDR3 memory up to 1866 MHz. The processor use 942 pins and these have been photographed on an engineering sample of a Bulldozer-based Zambezi processor. The picture can be found below.
