AMD was suppose to launch its new Opteron platform, Socket F, on July 17 but this has now been changed, for the worse. The new launch date for AMD’s new Opteron platform with support for DDR2 and AMD’s Virtualization technology has been moved to August 1. The reason for the delay is suppose to be that some manufacturers haven’t finished their Socket F products. It is still possible for computer builders to order AMD’s Socket F Opterons, but they can not start selling their systems until August 1.

”Opteron Socket F processor is packaged with LGA 1207, supports DDR2 and AMD Virtualization Technology, and quad-core will be included in the future. From the roadmap of AMD, FB-DIMM is going to be supported in mid-2008, the time where FB-DIMM will dropped to DDR2 price level.”
