AMD has more or less ditched the FX series in favor of the much more affordable Black Edition series. The difference between Phenom Black Edition and a regular Phenom isn’t just the cool black box, but AMD has handpicked the cores and unlocked the multiplier, a much appreciated feature by enthusiasts. According to sources inside AMD, it took only six weeks to design the Phenom Black Edition. Even if it is far from the most overclockable processor on the market it’s not because of the lack of features, but due to the design of the core and the manufacturing process. The Black Edition series is here to stay and we wouldn’t be surprised if future Black Editions turn out to be better overclockers.
