Small preview imageThat AMD will launch a Athlon 64 X2 5000+ sometime in the future is a given but it seems we will have to wait until the second quarter of 2006 before X2 5000+ will arrive on the market. But then again it looks like it will be worth the wait. X2 5000+ is namely one of the first Socket M2-processors that will be launched  and based on the new ”Windsor”-core, which brings a lot of news. Among other support for DDR2-667, bi-directional 1GHz HyperTransport buss, the security technology Presidio and the virtualisation technology Pacifica.

Athlon 64 X2 5000+ will work at 2.667GHz with a bus at 333MHz and L2-cache at 2 x 1MB. Whether AMD will update its current X2-series for Socket 939 is yet to be announced, but right nwo it feels this have to happen before the end of the first quarter of 2006.
